10 THINGS THAT INSPIRE ME

Mzo Gcwabe, Co-Creative Director of Head Honcho

By Mzo Gcwabe

This is the list of ten things that inspire me right now. If you know me personally, then you understand that my mind is all over the place. This is not always a good trait, but it does wonders for a person that functions on the need to constantly consume influences and use those stimuli to produce creative work.

Ricardo Tisci

'Watch the Throne' cover design by Ricardo Tisci

Ricardo Tisci is the creative director of Givenchy. I only found out about this man after I saw his H.A.M cover design. He recently designed the Watch the Throne artwork too. What really impresses me is the fact that this man can design both the male and female lines for Givenchy and also manage to be a brilliant graphic designer as well.

Amazing visuals

Well-shot photographs or videos. I get really excited when I see another artist’s point of view. When an artist’s vision is framed well, they are a step closer to letting the audience into their world and their way of seeing things.

FFFFound

www.ffffound.com is a sea of inspiration I swim in very now and then. Members post images from their own websites, pictures they have “ffffound” on other sites. Some members even post recent work. If you like a member’s images, you can look through their previous posts and similar work is suggested to you. Membership is by invite only, but anyone can browse the thousands of mind blowing pictures in the website’s achieves.

Well-dressed women

I don’t mean barely-dressed or scantily dressed; I am talking about a fashionable and sensible woman with good taste, attitude and confidence. There’s something about having all these qualities that makes me think I have to pick that woman’s mind.. Like she has something worth hearing.

Adventure Time

Adventure Time is a cartoon series about a human boy (Fin) and his magical dog (Jake). Jake and Fin go around the Land of Ooo helping its inhabitants as a heroic action duo. At first glance this looks like any other cartoon but when you listen to the witty and quirky dialogue, you realize how smart and hilarious the writers are.

Streetwear gods

Bobby Hundreds from The Hundreds

As the Co-Creative Director of a streetwear label, like every other creative except god, I have people I look up to. One of those individuals is Bobby Hundreds, creative director and co-founder of The Hundreds. This guy has built a culture around his clothing and he has managed to evolve The Hundreds’ offering while growing the label’s consumer base. Progress and creativity inspire me.

The Office Playlist

Big Sean's 'Finally Famous'

We play everything at the Honcho HQ, from John Coltrane to Young Jezzy. At moment we are really loving The Weeknd, Big Sean’s Finally Famous, and Cory Guns. Music is a snap shot of the times.

Our View

The Head Honcho roof deck

Our roof top deck is the shit. Drinks and a smoke on a hot day up there are priceless.

My work

Head Honcho winter range

Everyday is different at the office; it is very rare to find me bored or not doing anything at all. We are constantly pushing ourselves and the brand. Streetwear is my life right now and it is a blessing to be working on a brand that has taken on a life of its own. Head Honcho is a Movement.

Dope Conversations

Another one of my personality traits is that I talk a lot; I mean a whole lot, something like a thousand words per second. Anyway this has led me to meet some very interesting people. The best thing about that is that my ideas are challenged and sometimes I learn a thing of two. I am on all the popular social networking websites and love them, but I still prefer have to have face to face conversations.
