Our fam, Scoop, Lungsta & Thomas made history with the first season of their popular reality TV show “Forever Young”. They asked us to host the season finale party for the show and we did it in style. Khuli Chana put on one of his best and most electric performances ever and the DJs (Dimplez, Groove Afrika, Loyd, Lyle & Saxso) made sure that the dance floors were jam-packed at all times.

Head Honcho, the country’s freshest streetwear brand hosted one hell of a launch party this past Friday.

All the Honchos, as the brand’s followers are affectionately known, descended on Cape Town’s hot night spot, The Loop, for the launch of Head Honcho’s highly-anticipated Winter range. The launch party was headlined by none other than DJ KENT, who is famous for insane house mixes that leave club revelers in awe.

In attendance were the likes of comedian Thomas Gumede, actor Tony Kgoroge, Seventeen’s editor Janine Jellars, entrepreneur Tibz Motsoane (voted one of GQ’s most stylish men in 2010) and many other trendsetters and fashionistas. Head Honcho’s new winter items could be seen on every corner of the club, worn proudly by Cape Town’s cool kids.

The new Winter range is now available at Shesha and Sportscene stores.

Joburg’s favourite son, Prokid, is gearing up to launch his new album “Continua” in Cape Town this Friday courtesy of Fish Eagle. Soweto’s No. 1 boy is not coming alone. He is bringing our very own Honchos, DJ Fanatic and AKA, who will be holding it down with him at Casablanca. Our CPT boys Ill SKillz will be also in the house ready to shut things down with a pre-Jazz performance.

Yo fam, what’s good? I couldn’t have asked for such an amazing start to the year, a continuation from 2011’s success and achievements.

Jan saw the start of my residency on The Ultimix @ 6 every Monday on 5fm’s Fresh Drive Show for the Month of January. This had come after I was runner up in the Ultimix competition last year. In addition to this I had a successful reign in Thursday Night Residency @ Cape Town Elite Beach Clubs, St Yves in Camps Bay.

Hahaha no pressure! Yeah, 2^nd March Sees the 1^st of a few events I will be hosting this year in and around Cape Town and hopefully extend nationally (God Willing)

I’m looking forward to the event which features SOME of my favourite DJs iv played alongside in the past years. Namely:

What goes into hosting a great party? 

If I told you, I’d have to… haha you know the rest. Being a DJ, I am exposed to all sorts of parties weekly. So for me, it is a combination of elements/touch points that I pick up from all these events and put them into one.

To be honest, I can talk all day about what goes into hosting a great party… the same way mothers can spend telling us what is the perfect way to make a perfect dish or keep a happy a husband happy, haha.

You’ve had a pretty meteoric rise in the DJ scene. What contributed to that and what would you say sets you apart from everyone else?

Thank you fam, there’s no one I can thank without having to thank the lord for my talent and ear for music. I’ve had an amazing team of people (friends and family) who have helped me along the way. Let it be know that I’m very far from where I want to be and have a long road ahead. My team @anythinggoes_ct (Anything Goes) have played an amazing role in changing my mind set holistically about DJing.

Nowadays, anyone can DJ, what sets me apart from other DJs comfortably (in my honest opinion) is my versatility. I’ve been blessed with an ear for music, stretching from dubstep to the oldest kwaito there is.

My mixes http://bit.ly/Aj4H0e can attest to this. I think of the names Dino Bravo & SPHEctacula probably the only two who can (and still do) play for ANY crowd with no problems.

You’ve played in every major city/town in SA. Which city is the livest?

Yeah… Music has taken me to most cities in SA, all of them with different experiences and music culture. By far my favourite place to play in is Grahamstown. Yes.. Crazy G-town.

That place is crazy, not only is it ALWAYS a challenge, but also an awesome DJ experience. I always want to carry on playing when my time is up. Its mad fun out there

Who do you look up to in the local entertainment industry and where do you see yourself in 5 years time? 

Man, there are so many cats that I look up too. A few that I really admire for the ability to master the craft. I think it would be a crime if I did not mention the likes of Kent and Black Coffee as people who I look up too. But I also do look up to the young cats making a name for themselves in the game. A shout out to my homie DJ Loyd having my back from 07 till now, def a friend and someone who I look up to.

Aside from DJiing what else do you do?

AH YES… The dreaded 9-5 haha, in this case I LOVE MY JOB! I am an Account exec & Social media manager for a Branded Entertainment agency called Anything Goes.

Cape Town was abuzz last week with one of the best parties to take place this year. The good people of Hunter’s Dry threw a party like no other at Laguna Beach, a hotel with sweeping views of the Mother City. Chinas, as Hunter’s Dry consumers are often called, partied the night away on a beautiful Summer day.

Hunter’s Dry flew down some of the best bands, DJs and rappers to come entertain the lucky few. Artists such as AKA, Khuli Chana, GoodLuck, Gangs of Instrumental, JR left the crowd in awe with jaw-dropping performances. DJs Poppy from 5FM, Vigilante and our very own pH bumped some of the best beats this side of the equator.

To say this was a great party would be an understatement … Shout out to Hunter’s Dry for the great hospitality. And to our boy Thapelo Mokoena, the No. 1 China, we see you playboy .. keep doing your thang!

Let’s get our party on Honchos!

The Honcho fam hosted another installment of STAY FRESH SUNDAYS at Casablanca in Cape Town this past Sunday. The event was like nothing else that we have done in the past. Head Honcho ambassador LULO CAFE put together an inspiring set. He performed with a live band with the help of songbird Nothende. The result was a captivating, soul-stirring performance that took people on a musical odyssey.

We rounded up the event with top notch sets from PARTY PEOPLE’s legendary DJ Kenzhero. He took the Honchos down memory lane with songs from Lauryn Hill, The Fugees, Mobb Deep and TLC. Props are due to all the other DJs that held it down on Sunday … pH, Groove Afrika, Saxso, Vybes, Leo Large & Fritz the Cat all put on dope  sets. Big Shout out to our partners for the evening i.e. Channel O, Power Play and Fish Eagle.

Head Honcho and YGB proudly present the next installment of STAY FRESH SUNDAY.

The biggest streetwear brand in SA is once again partnering up with Channel O, Power Play Energy drink and Fish Eagle on  a night to remember. February’s edition of STAY FRESH SUNDAY will see one of SA’s biggest house acts, Soul Candi’s LULO CAFE, put together a captivating live performance.

The DJ, who is typically known for spinning house tunes on the decks, will be accompanied by a band at this event. Nothende, the famed Joburg-based songstress, will round up Lulo’s band and will handle vocals on a couple of their collaborations.

Party People’s critically-acclaimed founder and DJ, Kenzhero, will head up the DJ line-up. He will be supported by some of Cape Town’s finest house and hip hop DJs, namely pH, Leo Large, Fritz the Cat, Groove Afrika and Lyle.

The party starts at 3pm and will go in till late in the evening. Come early so that you can enjoy the fresh Summer vibes at Casa Blanca.
